Audio Spatialization

I went to a few presentations at the Workshop on variable acoustics in large spaces for music at CIRMMT – Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology, McGill University, Montreal – today and heard about highly equipped research/performance/recording spaces at IEM, EMPAC, IRCAM and CALIT2.

With a setup of 50-300 speakers units, and a highly configurable environment (absorbing, reflective or diffusing surfaces) you can experiment with Wave Field Synthesis – artificial wave fronts giving the illusion of a virtual sound source.
