A Dangerous Method This was a bit of a disappointment - A Dangerous Method is a Cronenberg movie after all, but i feel like he touched upon a interesting subject and instead of going deeper into it, he decided to make a partially funny (deliberately or not) romance movie. We are introduced to the relationship between Jung and Freud, but we don't see enough of it to feel the pain of the rupture between them. The rupture that will bring Jung to a nervous breakdown (or: when he gives in and let's his unconscious take over). Also, the sexual relationship between Jung and Sabina Spielrein has lots of potential - may it be a doctor-patient relationship, a soda-masochistic sexual one, or the partnership admiration between two scientists - yet at the end of the movie we are meant to believe it was a (mainly) romantic one. I feel we are missing scenes to make both those 2 relationships believable. Limitless Limitless (2011) takes an interesting idea and completely ruins it. It's about a pill that amplifies your focus and attention capabilities to a max and gives you unlimited access to every possible memory. Which in combination makes you very clever of course. Yet because drugs are bad you go onto a downward-spiral once you are off it. Unless - you can afford to keep the pills coming, then you learn to overcome it's dangerous side-effects and eventually make your brain adapt to stay in hyper-mode without the chemicals.

Depressive people stay calm at the onsite of an approaching disaster because they already expect bad things to happen. This is what inspired Lars van Trier to write and direct Melancholia and is beautifully portrayed when at the end Justine finds her strength and comforts Claire and Leo. I am back from the movies, and i am still puzzled and captivated by Martha Marcy May Marlene. Mostly due the ambiguous abrupt ending that leaves you on the edge of your seat. Amazing work by first time director Sean Durkin, who also wrote the screenplay, incredibly acting by Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkes, slow and intense storytelling, beautiful camerawork, great editing.
